The Super Women Of Halloween

Sexy Super Woman

I was daydreaming about superpowers the other day… or more precisely, the superpower I’d want the most. My hands down first pick would of course be flying, and I think most people would appreciate that ability.

But, my second choice may surprise you. No, it’s not time travel, web slinging, or mutton busting. I woudn’t want anything too powerful, like LOTR’s “one ring to rule them all”. I’d be in risk of going all Galadriel over the potential power and yelling out all shall love me and despair and no one wants that. No, if it were up to me, it would be to have the power of Wonder Woman’s golden lasso. When Queen Hippolyte gave it to Wonder Woman she said,  “This is the Golden Lasso. Besides being made from an indestructible material, it also carries with it the power to compel people to tell the truth. Use it well, and with compassion.”

I can think of a few million uses for that superpower! I’d be able to get answers to all of my burning questions, like, “Hey Jimmy Kimmel! Who ate all of the Halloween candy?!” or, “Who approved the ‘Honey Boo Boo’ television program?” Yes, it really would be a pretty fantastic power  to have. Since we’re talking about super powers, I’ve noticed a trend that I am fond of, namely the offerings in women’s Halloween section aren’t just bar wench and French maid anymore.

Catwoman

Saving humanity (well, at least for Halloween) just got a little sexier, and an additional boost of female power because this year’s line up of women’s superhero costumes is something to take to the streets about. I’ve kind of looked down my nose at superhero costumes on occasion, I’ll admit it. (Sorry about that every actor and kid who wore the Robin outfit.)

There’s Harley Quinn, Hit Girl, Super Woman, Wonder Woman, She-Ra, Cat Woman, Spider-Girl, and several dozen more warriors, crime fighters, and assorted other bad-guy catcher getup’s.

These costumes can be toned down for conservative events, vamped up for a girl’s night out, or used to get you the first place prize at the costume contest. Ladies, as girl power gets recognized, the costumes behind the trend will get you recognized, too.

Harley Quinn

There’s something to be said for running around pretending to be a little more powerful than you are, I think. For you moms out there, it’s good for your daughters to see you as strong and powerful, and its good for them to view themselves that way, too. So, keep that in mind when shopping around during Halloween. As far as I’m concerned the only costume missing from the women superhero line up is Fried Green Tomatoes’ Mrs. Threadgood and Evelyn.

TAWANDA!!!

Attractive Halloween Costumes

Let’s be honest. A lot of women Halloween take it as an excuse to dress somewhat more… shall we say risky? Don’t get me wrong, I was every bit as guilty of this in my younger days. Halloween is a great time to cut loose and act slightly out of character. However, Halloween isn’t an excuse to be on bad behavior overboard. There’s nothing wrong with a little fun, but you shouldn’t lose your head. Save that for sleepy hollow. With this in mind, here are some times you might consider dressing a little more extravagantly.

  • An adult only work party.

Usually you have to be so conservative at work it might be a little fun to show off your wild side. Show a little leg and have fun. But don’t take it too far; keep it in good fun and conscious.

  • A costume competition.

There are two directions to go with a costume competition. One (which is the direction I typically go), you dress up in a stellar Halloween costume, blowing the crowd away with your sensational recreation or ingenuity. Two, you strut your stuff. Typically option one wins it, but that doesn’t make option two any less fun. Again, respectability is the name of the game. Have fun but don’t overdo it.

  • You’ve recently lost weight or gotten into better shape.

This is a great reason to show a little more leg. After all that hard work you deserve to show it off a little!

No matter what route or reason, whether it’s a sailor costume, a schoolgirl getup, or cheering on the team, make sure to stay safe and sane. Enjoy responsibly and have a happy Halloween!

Popular Halloween Costumes

When it comes to Halloween costumes, trends will come and go, as with many other things. As an avid fan of Halloween costumes, I have watched intently as these trends have risen and fallen over the years. When it comes to what is popular, there are usually two different categories: popular classics that have always been popular and newly popular costumes that have only recently become that way. Either way, a popular costume is a great choice for your next party or Halloween.

If you want to go with the classic popular costumes, you will have tons of great choices. These include old standbys such as cowboy, pirate, angel, cheerleader, ghost, vampire, cat, sexy nurse, zombie, mummy, and others. These have been favorites for several generations and continue to be to this day. You can always put a new twist on an old favorite to change it up a bit. For example, you could be a pirate ghost or a vampire nurse. So get creative and make one of these classic popular costumes your own.

The second category of popular costumes that you can choose to go with would be trendy new popular costumes. These usually come from hit movies or TV shows that are popular these days. Another part of this category that has recently gained popularity in the mainstream is video game character costumes. Some examples would be characters from The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, or Angry Birds. Keeping up on these new trends will put you at the frontline of new costumes. So have fun and choose a popular costume for your next costume event.

Manly Costume Duos

I recently wrote about famous women duos that are fun to dress up at anytime of the year. I thought it would be fun to explore the best duo options for men, but when I started writing them up I realized that there are far more options for men than women. Not fair! I am going to have to stockpile famous female duos for future posts. Anyway men, here are some good ideas for the next time you and a friend want to dress up:

1. Jay and Silent Bob- The long hair might be difficult, but other than that this is a classic retro look from the ‘90s.
2. Batman and Robin- The penultimate duo, maybe a bit overdone. But what woman wouldn’t like to see a man in green tights?
3. Hot Fuzz- If you haven’t seen the film it’s an absolute must. I laughed until I cried. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost make a fantastic duo.
4. Calvin & Hobbes – This costume could work as a duo, Hobbes is always more fun when he’s alive anyway.
5. Charlie Brown & Schroeder or Linus- Schroeder is the perfect wing-man for Charlie Brown because he can woo the ladies with music. If neither one of you is musical than you may have to be Linus.
6. Starsky & Hutch- Because who doesn’t want to be those guys?
7. Frodo & Sam- Everyone under the age of 30 will be so excited. My kids just loved those movies when they came out.
8. R2-D2 & C3PO- A good R2-D2 costume continues to win the best dressed costume award at most parties. So if you have time to put together a convincing robot costume — do it.

The rest are pretty self explanatory. I promise to do a post soon detailing how to dress up as these characters in detail. But for now here’s who made the list, let me know if you have any other suggestions:

1. Laurel & Hardy.
2. Hall & Oates.
3. Siskel & Ebert.
4. Lone Ranger & Tonto.
5. Cheech & Chong.
6. Moose & Squirrel from Bullwinkle.
7. Tweedledee and Tweedledum
8. Donald and Daffy Duck.
9. Beavis & Butthead.
10. Garfield and Odie.
11. Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin
12. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson
13. Simon and Garfunkel
14. Cain and Abel
15. Bert & Ernie
16. Pinky and the Brain
17. John Lennon and Paul McCartney

Hit The Town as These Famous Duos

Sometimes you just want to have a night on the town with your best friend and dress up. Am I right ladies? Or am I right? Well, because I just love Halloween I thought it would be fun to put together a list of some of the more famous women duos that good friends or sisters could dress up as.

Here are my top 5:
1. Thelma and Louise- Best friends for sure. Sporting denim, curly hair, neck and head scarves, sunglasses, sleeveless tops. Oh the possibilities are limitless!
2. Xena and Gabrielle- If you want to be a princess, why not be a warrior princess? Leather skirts, long hair, tall boots– Talk about sexy!
3. Daphne and Velma- Bright colored clothes and great hair, I couldn’t ask for a better combo myself. I just love Velma’s black rimmed glasses.
4. Betty and Veronica- What a fun pair. This costume is just about perfect for a casual date night, whether it’s bowling or hitting up a drive-in with the fellas.
5. The Grady Twins from The Shining. Sure, they’re incredibly scary, but maybe you don’t want to do sexy or pretty. This is the perfect Halloween duo, I may be biased but you understand.

I would love to know what your favorite feminine duos are. Feel free to send me your ideas and I’ll feature them right here on my blog.

Hit Tv Shows = Great Costume Ideas

Even if you love Halloween as much as I do, it can sometimes be hard to come up with a good costume idea that is original and fun. Well have no fear because Emma Rae is here and she has done all the hard work for you.

I have compiled a list of some great women’s Halloween costumes that are fun and creative, and some are downright easy. So read on for great women’s costume ideas that are sure to be a hit at your next Halloween party.

Some of the best ideas can come from current hit shows and movies. Two of my favorite shows right now are True Blood and Mad Men. True Blood is a show about vampires that is set in the south. The main character, Sookie (not to be confused with Snookie, which is also a great costume idea) works at a diner called Merlots. Her “uniform” is a white tee shirt with green printing that reads “Merlots”. She also has a green server apron.

So just buy a ready made Merlots tee shirt off the internet or make your own if you know how, get a green apron and you have a costume that is instantly recognizable and fun. Another of my favorite shows is Mad Men, a show about New York ad men in the 1960s. The main character’s wife is named Betty Draper and she is the embodiment of beauty and fashion at the time. Get a 60s cocktail dress and a pearl necklace and you have yourself a Betty Draper costume.

So I hope I have given you some good ideas or even a start to finding your own, Just think of shows you enjoy and start getting ideas!
